CodeYourFuture (CYF) is an NPO focusing on equipping under-resourced members of society with the skills they need to pursue a career in the tech industry.
Solve Hub is a collective that provides a framework for contributors to create businesses that solve impact challenges in Africa. We look forward to providing CYF students and graduates the opportunity to develop their skills through hackathons and other means. In addition, we will help course completers find employment through lectures on alternative strategies for standing out.
CYF was founded in 2016 in the UK and has since opened a chapter in Cape Town. In today's technological age, there are many job opportunities in the tech sector; however, everyone does not have equal access to tech education. CYF addresses this issue through its free, volunteer-run coding course, which goes beyond just technical skills.
The underlying belief that drives CYF forward is that everyone should get the chance to live a thriving life. Designing their course around this philosophy, CYF has ensured it is accessible to all who show they have the drive needed to follow a career in tech. The course is part-time, so people can still work or manage other personal responsibilities. Face-to-face classes are on Saturdays, and CYF provides coursework support online during the week. CYF provides extensive support to individuals facing challenges due to their life circumstances, for instance, travel assistance is available for those without access to transportation. Importantly, no prior coding experience is required, ensuring inclusivity for people from all backgrounds.
Graduates of CYF leave with not only coding skills but also professional and employability skills, a professional network, and increased confidence. Once students finish the course, they're not left behind; CYF continues to support them through their job search, interview process and beyond. An impressive 70% of CodeYourFuture graduates are currently thriving in the tech industry.
